Say it before you lose it
The thought arrives while you are in something else. Press the capture shortcut, say it, and it is on a board — no app to open, no window to find, no cursor to place.
Two shortcuts, either of which can be off
One shortcut captures, the other shows the board. Both are in Settings → Quick note, and either can be turned off if it collides with something you already use.
Nothing on the board disappears on its own
Notes stay on the Mac that took them. You can open a note to edit it, copy it out, or delete it yourself — and nothing is removed automatically. Dimming after a week, two weeks or a month only marks a note as having sat a while; it does not remove anything.
That is a deliberate choice. A capture surface that quietly expires is a capture surface you stop trusting, and a note you cannot trust to still be there is worse than no note.

Does the board sync between Macs?
No. Notes stay on the Mac that took them.
What if the shortcut clashes with another app?
Change it, or turn that shortcut off, in Settings → Quick note.
Are old notes deleted?
Never automatically. Dimming marks age; deletion is yours to do.
